As teased in the Halloween post, we're using the Halloween event to test the integration of our first custom map: Spooky Madness, a Halloween version of Madness.

Please note that this is a prototype – a proof of concept for testing. During the Halloween event, the map shows up randomly in matchmaking. We hope you enjoy the test!

Things to be aware of

  • Dropped flags and mines may not be positioned correctly and can be buggy.
  • Not all supply spawn points are perfect yet. If you see supply regions or boxes placed wrong or a bit off, feel free to send us a screenshot via our support.
  • This is the first custom map players can play on. We're gathering experience by testing it now – bugs can and will happen.
  • This version of Madness is a playable prototype and should not be seen as the final result.

Thank you

We want to thank some amazing people:

  • phoenixf1re for spending their time placing hundreds of tiles in their correct position
  • kavemans.dev for being a Unity master and figuring out everything needed (and so much more)
  • 8_208 for creating custom models for us
  • the other developers who helped and provided the tools we needed

This progress wouldn't have been possible without you!

Also in the Halloween update

  • The gold box module icon has been changed to something more fitting for Halloween.
  • A custom pumpkin gold box, based on videos of the old pumpkin gold box, has been implemented.
  • The gold box section in the shop has been renamed to "Pumpkins".

What's next: community maps

While Madness is a big milestone for us, there is still a lot left to figure out. Adding new content remains complicated, but with enough effort it is possible to some extent.

Creating maps is a ton of work – that's why we want to give you the chance to help us. We aim to make the Unity project in which we create maps open source in the future. It includes our current prop library, Madness, and layouts and tests for some other maps. We hope this encourages people to use their creativity to make the game more interesting.

Good maps and improvements may eventually be considered for the game. This step still requires a lot of work, and we don't know yet when it will happen. More details will follow when we're ready.

Everyone who worked on Madness, and everyone who helps develop maps for the game in the future, receives the MapMaker role on our Discord server.

Cheers to this milestone!
